GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ University of Missouri System President Mun Choi walked through downtown Columbia after a Stephens College student was shot last month to check on safety issues for Mizzou students and the public—he met with local law enforcement and heard concerns about gun violence and homeless individuals. Choi said he would return to downtown soon to monitor the situation. KRCG
- ➤ Today, Columbia City Council met at 7 p.m. at the Daniel Boone City Building to discuss a $4 million renovation of the Albert-Oakland Family Aquatic Center that will fix aging pool equipment, add new features, and close the facility until early spring, as well as a $600K project to improve a 2,100-foot sidewalk in west Columbia. The council will also update its strategic plan for violence prevention and swear in new directors for Community Development and Housing and Neighborhood Services—steps that could influence future city projects. - ➤ University of Missouri System President Mun Choi walked downtown with local business owners, residents, and Boone County Prosecutor Roger Johnson on Saturday night to review the increased police presence put in place after a deadly shooting raised concerns over street gatherings.
