ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Conservation will accept live Christmas trees from Jan. 1 to Jan. 31 to improve fish habitat in local lakes and ponds, and residents in Columbia can drop them off at the MDC office (after removing all ornaments) to help support native wildlife. KOMU 8

- ➤ Gray machines, unregulated gaming devices, are still operating in Columbia even though nearby cities like Kansas City and Springfield have banned them. Local officials are reviewing the situation to decide if new regulations are needed. Columbia Missourian

- ➤ Warming centers are now available in Mid-Missouri to provide temporary shelter from dangerously cold weather for vulnerable people — including the homeless, outdoor workers, children, older adults and those with chronic conditions — with service sites in Columbia and surrounding communities.
