  • Local grocery chains in Columbia will offer reduced hours on Christmas Eve as stores close on Christmas Day so shoppers can plan ahead for holiday needs (including Clover’s, Hy-Vee, Walmart, and Trader Joe’s).  Columbia Daily Tribune

  • The Kitchen Grill and Games is preparing behind the scenes to reopen Columbia’s only ice skating rink. The local business is fine-tuning its process to meet safety standards for skating guests.  Columbia Missourian

CULTURE NEWS

  • Chabad of Columbia will light a Lego menorah today at its Hanukkah celebration, with extra protection after a terrorist attack in Sydney (additional safety measures are in place).  Columbia Missourian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City Council approved nearly $1 million for overnight shelter and stabilization services provided by two local nonprofits, bolstering support for warming centers ahead of the winter season. The funding will aid local efforts to offer safe shelter during cold nights.  Columbia Missourian
  • Columbia City Council approved annexing 45 acres north of Enterprise Drive on Monday night that is planned to become a trucking facility in agreement with KW COU, LLC. The project, estimated at $35 million-$40 million, will receive its sewer connection per a plan arranged last year (a 20-year revenue-sharing term offsets costs).  ABC 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • Columbia Water and Light issued a boil advisory for 58 customers after a water main break occurred Monday at 2111 Warwick Street and 3001 Rollins Road; residents are advised to boil water for three minutes and check the city’s online outage map for updates.  KOMU 8
