COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sleep in Heavenly Peace partnered with the Crossing Church to give beds to kids aged 3 to 17 in Columbia. The group delivered 27 beds Saturday after receiving 200 pillows from a college ministry on Tuesday and plans to build more beds in March.  KOMU 8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Columbia Mall managers said that fewer days for Christmas shopping since Thanksgiving have led the mall to offer extended hours—complete with gift wrapping and Santa—to help local shoppers find perfect gifts before Christmas Day.  KRCG
  • Columbia-based Equipment Share Inc. has filed for an initial public offering and will list its shares as EQPT on Nasdaq Global Select Market when SEC approval is received — the company, founded in 2015, reported $3.8 billion in revenue in 2024 and operates 342 full-service rental locations.  ABC 17

CULTURE NEWS

  • Veterans United Bright Lights and Holiday Nights display started Wednesday and runs free until Dec. 21 along State Farm Parkway. The drive-through show operates from 7 to 10:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m. on weekends (visit after 8:30 p.m. for lighter traffic) and is in its final year because of nearby development.  KOMU 8
  • A poll on Christmas trees is asking local families whether they favor a fresh-scented real tree or an easy-care artificial tree. Tune in at the end of Live at Sunrise today—Mid-Missouri will reveal its top pick.  KRCG

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Columbia Regional Airport reported a $3.2 million loss in fiscal 2024 but witnessed record passenger numbers in September and October, and it announced that Allegiant Airlines will offer summer 2026 flights to Florida — officials will also upgrade parking and signage as passenger growth continues.  KOMU 8
  • Arkansas Electric Cooperative officials announced plans to build a $7 million, 50,000 sqft distribution center in rural Boonville after State Representative Adrian Plank learned of the project at a Regional Economic Development Incorporated meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 10, and it is expected to create new jobs + boost the local economy.  KRCG

  • Mizzou senior Joshua Donaldson has won the Marshall Scholarship and will study water infrastructure in the United Kingdom after graduation, boosting his work in biological engineering.  Columbia Missourian

  • Owen Ramsingh, a longtime resident, will be deported to the Netherlands following a sudden court transfer (after months in detention facilities with unfit conditions).  Columbia Missourian

HEALTH NEWS

  • A MU biomedical engineering student created a reusable dishwashing glove that helps those with eczema by allowing sweat to escape while keeping water out — she is now testing prototypes and seeking investors after earning $5,000 in a pitch competition.  KOMU 8
