COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Linda Libert and her son Tyler have opened Magnolia's Whiskey & Wine Bistro in the nearly 200-year-old Niedermeyer building on Tenth and Cherry— a space that has played many roles in Columbia’s past since 1837. They plan to add a restaurant in 2026 while working with groups like CoMo Preservation to keep the building's history alive.  KOMU 8
  • Firefighters at Columbia Fire Department's Fire Station No. 1 (downtown) prepared a Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving morning while staying ready to respond to any emergency calls. The crew cooked hams, casseroles and pies to share with their families, underscoring their commitment to serving the community.  ABC 17
  • The Rotary Club of Columbia fried a record-tying 405 turkeys at its annual Thanksgiving Day Turkey Fry held at the Knights of Columbus on Thursday. Community members bought 275 turkeys + 130 were donated to local groups + volunteers began frying the 15-20-pound birds at 3 a.m.  ABC 17

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ameren Missouri set a new rate structure that requires large power users to pay interconnection costs upfront and sign long-term contracts, as approved by the Missouri Public Service Commission this week. The plan aims to share costs fairly and support job growth statewide— the approval came a day before an Amazon data center project was announced in Montgomery County.  KOMU 8

SPORTS NEWS

  • Coach Drinkwitz agreed to a new contract on Wednesday that will keep him with the Tigers until the 2031 season — his 11-year run includes an average pay of $10.75 million per year. Under his leadership, the team has reached bowl games for six straight seasons and he said he is proud to continue building a winning program in Columbia.  KOMU 8
