  • The Columbia Fire Department is set to demonstrate fire risks related to improper deep-frying of turkeys, with safety tips provided to prevent home cooking fires during Thanksgiving.  ABC 17
  • The elevator at the Tenth and Cherry parking garage in Downtown Columbia will be closed for repairs from 8 a.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Wednesday, but ADA parking on the first floor remains available.  ABC 17

CRIME NEWS

  • Cordero Riley Jr., a juvenile, was charged as an adult with multiple offenses, including second-degree murder, in a fatal shooting incident in Columbia.  ABC 17
  • Deljuan Turner pleads guilty to second-degree murder in a June 2023 Columbia shooting, receiving a 20-year prison sentence.  ABC 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brian Yearwood retires as Columbia Public Schools Superintendent, with Chris Belcher stepping in as interim; Yearwood to advise until year's end before moving to Texas.  Columbia Daily Tribune
  • The Columbia Board of Education is soliciting community suggestions online for naming a new elementary school in southwest Columbia.  ABC 17
