- ➤ Friday evening, the Columbia Country Club hosted the 27th Annual Adopt a Warrior Honors event where service members and CPD K-9 Duke were recognized for bravery. Honorees were escorted from downtown Columbia by police and state highway patrol, and USTF officials said they went above and beyond the call of duty — honoring local heroes for their service. KRCG

- ➤ Former Columbia Second Chance employee Torre Taylor said she reported troubling animal training practices by breeder Melissa Sanders in April, but her concerns were not heeded before Sanders was charged with 18 counts of animal abuse after a law enforcement search of Magnum Opus German Shepherds LLC found malnourished dogs and signs of neglect—Taylor claims the dog Galoshes lost significant weight during its care. - ➤ Columbia Public Schools is bracing for reduced funding for its CPS Nutrition program as SNAP cuts in the Big Beautiful Bill put district funds at risk — officials say this uncertainty may affect student meal services. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ Missouri universities are building new meat processing labs to train workers as demand for meat grows. The University of Missouri started a $35 million, 35,000-square-foot lab in April that will process beef, goat, pork, lamb and poultry under USDA inspection—Lincoln University is also starting a lab while Northwest Missouri State built one in 2019. - ➤ The Missouri Department of Conservation has begun mandatory deer testing for chronic wasting disease in Boone County during deer season—hunters must bring their harvested deer for testing to help track the disease. - ➤ Gov. Mike Kehoe said Missouri will join the national Crash Responder Safety Week from Nov. 17 to Nov. 21 — an event that honors road helpers and reminds drivers to slow down. MoDOT reported 745 road deaths in Missouri in 2025 — a figure that has raised concerns about traffic safety. KOMU 8
- ➤ A Columbia landowner submitted a rezoning request to the City Council and said he plans to build a technology hub—rather than a data center—which has sparked concern among local residents. - ➤ World War II era planes flew over Faurot Field before kickoff for Mizzou games against Texas A&M and Mississippi State on Saturday, replacing the usual B2 bombers that were grounded because of the government shutdown.
