ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Columbia Fire Department rescued a 12-year-old boy from a stormwater drain near Broadway and Parkway Boulevard after he was reported crawling into the system Friday evening—using grid searches with Columbia Utilities and police support, crews safely extracted the child after a four-hour search while officials confirmed the drain system poses no public hazard. - ➤ On November 12, the Callaway Energy Center in Callaway County was briefly shut down after water entered the generators and affected its auxiliary feedwater system—workers performed a manual turbine trip. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said no one was hurt and that the plant was stable, classifying the situation as a non-emergency. KRCG

- ➤ A water issue caused part of the Callaway Energy Center nuclear plant to shut down this week after unfiltered water disrupted pump chemistry—restoration of the non-nuclear systems is underway to return full power with no danger to the public. ABC 17
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ New data from Zumper shows that Columbia apartment listing prices increased 4% since last October — the typical listing is now $1,350 compared to last year's $1,300 median. One-bedroom apartments dropped to $1,049 from $1,110 in September while two-bedroom listings rose to $1,100, signaling varied trends among unit types. Columbia Daily Tribune

- ➤ Today the Missouri Department of Conservation is holding mandatory testing for Chronic Wasting Disease as the November firearms season opens. Sampling will occur today and Sunday at select sites (Mexico High School in Audrain County and Ashland Optimist Club in Boone County). ABC 17

- ➤ The city of Columbia announced that firefighters will present Thanksgiving fire safety tips at the Columbia Fire Department Training Academy at 700 Big Bear Blvd from noon to 1 p.m. on Nov. 19, and residents are invited to register online to join the new Community Classroom session. KOMU 8
- ➤ The Missouri Public Service Commission will hold public hearings on Ameren Missouri's 250-megawatt solar project in Callaway County. The in-person session is set for 6 p.m. Jan. 6 at Legends Rec-Plex (808 State Street, Fulton) while a virtual hearing will take place at 12 p.m. Jan. 8. KOMU 8
- ➤ After the president signed legislation ending the shutdown, the Missouri Department of Social Services began working to send full SNAP benefits to recipients and is still delivering partial aid until its systems update to handle full November benefits (DSS Director Jess Bax said). Officials expect these benefits to reach households quickly, according to a news release (Thursday). ABC 17
