- ➤ Coyote Hill opened its new Family Center on Thursday to support foster care families and host community events—aiming to train new families and build a playground for events. The organization still needs to raise over $1 million and plans to expand statewide in the future. KOMU 8
- ➤ Local libraries in Columbia are launching a winter clothing drive that asks residents to donate coats, scarves, and hats to help neighbors stay warm + donations will be accepted at all branches. Columbia Missourian
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Columbia emergency crews rescued a 12-year-old boy who fell into a stormwater system near Downtown Columbia on Thursday night—firefighters pulled him from a small underground pipe just before 10:00 p.m. and he was taken to a hospital for further evaluation. KRCG
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., Pierpont General Store will host a Holiday Sip & Shop event featuring handcrafted jewelry, art, and children’s books from local vendors along with a selection of wines and food. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Columbia College dedicated a memorial suite to honor two veterans (Col. Frank S. Westling and Dean Frazier Moon ’74) on Thursday in St. Clair Hall. The college said the suite recognizes their leadership in growing its Extended Studies Division into a military-friendly program. KOMU 8
- ➤ Columbia Public Schools board members John Lyman, Paul Harper and April Ferrao announced plans to run for reelection after completing their first term since 2023. They will file for candidacy from Dec 9—Dec 30 ahead of the April 7 election. Columbia Daily Tribune
- ➤ Daniel Boone Regional Library has opened nominations for One Read 2026 — a year-long program meant to promote life-long learning in the community. Columbia Missourian
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Social Services announced that all SNAP participants will receive full benefits for November after the government shutdown ended. Participants who got partial benefits will receive the remaining funds soon (no action is needed on their part). KOMU 8
