  • The Jefferson City Salvation Army launched its annual Red Kettle Campaign on Friday to raise $410,000 amid delays in SNAP benefits—Gov. Mike Kehoe attended the event at the Capitol Rotunda to spotlight the growing food access needs as the holiday season nears.  KRCG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Columbia Regional Airport on Monday, two departing flights were canceled and multiple arrivals were delayed as airlines cut flights to comply with federal orders during the government shutdown—disrupting service to hubs such as Chicago, Dallas, and Denver.  KOMU 8
  • Officials began work on a new roundabout at Route K and Old Plank Road to improve driver safety—completion will occur by early winter.  Columbia Missourian
  • Due to an ongoing government shutdown, several flights at Columbia Regional Airport were canceled or delayed yesterday; American Airlines canceled two outbound flights and one inbound flight from Dallas and delayed another by five hours while United Airlines canceled its Chicago-bound flight after an eight-hour delay (these changes disrupted local travel). In addition, 40 flights at St. Louis Lambert International Airport and five flights in Kansas City were affected from 3:15 p.m. Monday onward (further impacting regional schedules).  ABC 17
  • Columbia’s Business Loop 70 will be closed from November 12 until November 26 for roundabout construction, and crews will finish the project by November 26—though the new roundabout will not connect to eastbound I-70 until late 2027. All businesses along the route will remain accessible during the closure.  ABC 17
  • City of Columbia is launching the Artist Laureate Program—supporting one local artist’s work for one year.  Columbia Missourian

HEALTH NEWS

  • Missouri health insurers will raise monthly premiums for 2026 due to federal proposals that cancel ACA tax credit extensions—Missourians who buy their own plans may see increases up to 30% while one insurer will lower its rates. The Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance warned that these changes will force people paying full price to face rising costs in a challenging market.  KOMU 8
  • MU Health Care will host a free lung cancer screening day on November 22 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at South Providence Medical Building for patients meeting national criteria. A new study finds that radon—an invisible, radioactive gas—raises lung cancer risk in non-smokers, especially women, which may lead experts to call for broader screening guidelines.  KOMU 8
