COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Missouri Department of Public Safety’s State Emergency Management Agency issued a winter weather preparedness alert that has prompted homeless shelters across Mid-Missouri to boost capacity and serve meals as temperatures drop. In Columbia, Room at the Inn reached full occupancy on Sunday with 103 beds, and local warming centers including City Hall and the public library have stocked supplies—officials say these measures will help address rising unsheltered homelessness—as colder weather continues.  ABC 17

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • MoDOT's I-70 Improve Project hit a milestone with pavement laid between mile markers 137 and 144, but a four-vehicle crash caused a car to be declared a total loss as emergency crews took 15 minutes to arrive — local responders cited congestion, detours, and limited access as key challenges.  KOMU 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Columbia Ballet Academy will serve as the new Boone County Family Resources provider for DanceAbility starting Dec. 1 to keep the dance program for children ages 4 and up going after the Mareck Center for Dance closed; academy owners and local nonprofit Theater Reaching Young People in Schools secured paperwork and tuition support + scheduled a DanceAbility showcase on Nov. 23 and a performance of The Nutcracker on Dec. 5.  KOMU 8

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Community leaders from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference said data from the Columbia Community Trend Manual shows Black households now earn a median income of $44,600 compared to $64,500 overall with higher poverty rates, and they called on City Council to deliver a plan for change within 90 days + warning that continued economic division could affect community well-being. City Council is set to review the report and its impacts on local residents.  KOMU 8
