COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dozens of community members gathered outside the Columbia Farmers Market on Saturday morning for a free pumpkin smashing event hosted by the Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture—using a trebuchet and baseball bats to show kids how to compost pumpkins after Halloween.  KOMU 8
  • Girls on the Run hosted a fall 5K event—twelve schools from mid-Missouri joined the run to build community.  Columbia Missourian

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Atlas Genius show at Rose Music Hall was canceled yesterday because visa-processing delays with U.S. customs stopped the band from arriving for their planned U.S. tour. All Ticketmaster tickets were refunded—band and promoter plan to reschedule the performance for 2026.  KOMU 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Fulton Public Schools will offer a free EMT training course for high school seniors next semester & is partnering with the Callaway County Ambulance District to teach life-saving skills like using an AED. About six students have already shown interest in the program, which will be held at the Ambulance District headquarters.  KOMU 8
  • The CPS board will review the English learner and migrant education program and discuss Columbia Area Career Center renovations—along with filing information for board positions due Monday.  Columbia Missourian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. 63/I-70 overpass will be closed for repairs from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday and Wednesday+traffic will be rerouted during these closures+ drivers should plan extra travel time.  Columbia Missourian

SPORTS NEWS

  • Two World War II-era planes flew over Faurot Field before Mizzou's game against Texas A and M as the government shutdown halted the usual B-2 bombers; the aircraft came from the American Flight Museum in Topeka and included a C47 Dakota called Spooky and two CJ6 models that offered fans a distinct vintage sound.  KOMU 8
