- ➤ Shelter Insurance Company’s five-acre botanical garden is at its corporate campus at 1917 West Broadway and features a stone and wrought iron fence—displaying more than 300 types of trees and 15,000 annuals and perennials along with a waterfall, rock garden, and themed areas. The garden was envisioned by groundskeeper Scotty Garrett and is free to visit every day between 8 a.m. and dusk except on Christmas or during inclement weather. COMO Magazine

- ➤ City officials increased downtown police patrols after residents and business owners raised concerns about safety, adding 8 new officers on July 1 to boost the night shift. - ➤ The City of Columbia Public Works crews will hold their annual dry run on Wednesday from 10 to 10:30 a.m. at the Grissum Building on 1313 Lakeview Ave to review safety procedures for winter, and the fleet will add five new snow-capable trucks—two arriving this month and three in January. ABC 17
- ➤ Residents in Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Cole, Cooper, Howard, Moniteau and Osage counties are invited to share input on a new solid waste plan via an online survey or at local meetings scheduled from Nov. 12 to Dec. 10 at community venues. - ➤ Missouri Connections for Health has helped Missourians with Medicare and health insurance for 25 years and now runs programs such as Missouri SHIP, the Benefits Enrollment Center—currently paused—and the Rural Unhoused Helpline to assist with housing and health needs. Executive director Scott Miniea said the group seeks volunteers and donations as demand grows during open enrollment. COMO Magazine
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has issued an advisory today warning that the opioid-like substance 7-hydroxymitragynine— a synthetic form of kratom found in products like gummies, candies, powders, liquid shots, imitation ice cream cones and tablets— can cause addiction, overdose and death. - ➤ Most individual health insurance plans in Missouri will see prices rise next year if federal tax credits are not extended—Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City will lower some rates while other carriers like Cox Health Plans may raise premiums by about 30% and some plans could jump as much as 70%.
