- ➤ Schnucks Markets began a food drive at all 113 stores yesterday and the drive will run until Nov 11 to support local food banks since SNAP benefits are frozen. Customers can drop off shelf-stable items in donation bins and the chain is working with partners like United Way and The Salvation Army—helping feed those in need. KOMU 8

- ➤ Columbia residents gathered outside Trader Joe's today at the Shoppes at Stadium + the new store, Missouri’s fifth Trader Joe's, is set to offer a fresh way to shop for groceries. Columbia Missourian
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Child Development Lab at MU announced the launch of RISE-MO on Thursday— a grant-funded program from the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development aimed at expanding the early childhood workforce and addressing the state’s child care shortage. The program will develop new credentialing opportunities and career pathways for early childhood professionals. KOMU 8
- ➤ Columbia Public Schools held a meeting Thursday to plan a $560,000 facility project to check building conditions and space use—board members chose DLR Group to conduct the study and review the plan in November. The proposal will be considered in December so work can start in January 2027—updating the district's buildings as needed. ABC 17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Crews will resurface one lane at a time on South Sixth Street in Columbia starting at 7 a.m. on November 3 between Elm and East Stewart Road—drivers should use South Fifth Street while Tiger Line 403 and Black Route bus riders follow detour routes, and 'no parking' signs on parking meters Friday alert that meters will not work November 3 and 4. - ➤ Business Loop 70 will be closed for two weeks starting on Nov 12 through Nov 26 for roundabout construction between Hathman Place + Eastland Circle. MoDOT said the project will provide direct access to eastbound Interstate 70 in late 2027 and keep businesses accessible during the work. ABC 17
- ➤ Columbia police helped manage traffic around the new Trader Joe’s at 201 N. Stadium Blvd (The Shoppes on Stadium) after the store opened Thursday at 9 a.m. and will assign extra officers all weekend to ease congestion on North Stadium Boulevard, West Worley Street and West Ash Street. ABC 17
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Missouri health officials warned on Oct. 28 that consumers should avoid 7-OH, a chemically modified kratom product sold in smoke shops, gas stations, convenience stores and online. The advisory said the product is untested and unregulated and can be up to 13 times as potent as morphine (it is sold as gummies and tablets). Columbia Daily Tribune
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services warned against using 7-OH products today, saying the natural drug from kratom is stronger than morphine—overdose signs include nausea, confusion, and seizures. ABC 17
