Columbia Parks and Recreation is renovating Douglass Park’s basketball courts with LED lighting, new goals, and a themed court—efforts designed to revive the historic Moonlight Hoops program.

The completed improvements will bring back city-run basketball programming and are expected to be finished by June 2026.

Rose Music Hall in downtown Columbia hosted a fundraiser Sunday for Owen Ramsingh, who was detained by ICE at a Chicago airport in late September—his wife and local friends gathered with live music, food and donations for the Bring Owen Home campaign, and a second fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, October 31.

Governor Mike Kehoe is urging neighbors to donate to local food pantries amid a government shutdown that is delaying SNAP benefits and federal workers' pay—with the Food Bank Market at 705 Business Loop 70 and Annie Fisher Food Pantry at 1201 Paquin St. accepting donations while Columbia Meals on Wheels will open meal plan applications Wednesday to help ease rising food insecurity.
