COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Friends of CoMO hosted a brake light clinic and free market on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church parking lot, where residents replaced taillights (LEDs not included) to help avoid $50 tickets and picked up free winter essentials, baby items, and food. KOMU 8
- ➤ On Saturday, United Community Builders hosted a Taste and See fundraiser to showcase its new Beacon of Hope facility with expanded space near Providence—this facility will triple its capacity from 40 to 120 students and help fund Pre-K and after-school programs. Eight local vendors served soul food while attendees used a passport to tour the building and learn about plans to expand services in northeast Columbia. KOMU 8
- ➤ The city is revising plans for Douglass Park's basketball courts and working with community members (through Parks and Recreation) to design updated courts. Columbia Missourian
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City crews will start resurfacing Rock Quarry Road Monday — the project will cover 2,000 feet south of the Rock Quarry Road and East Stadium Boulevard intersection. Columbia Missourian
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A health department clinic—providing flu shots and COVID-19 tests—will open next week with one on Tuesday in Centralia and another on Thursday in Columbia. KOMU 8
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Mizzou football junior defensive end Darris Smith is the first SEC player to wear a Guardian Cap during a game — a soft cover designed to help reduce head injuries — and the cap is part of the team’s efforts to boost player safety. KOMU 8
