  • Multiple Columbia residents experiencing homelessness have shared stories of online harassment after Choi urged efforts to clean up downtown crime—these accounts have raised concerns about increased threats against a vulnerable group. EDUCATION NEWS

  • An AWS outage that began early Monday disrupted Canvas, Zoom, Panopto and VoiceThread at MU and Stephens College—limiting students' access to coursework—and the company said it was working on recovery.  KOMU 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MoDOT warned Missouri drivers that cooler nights and deer breeding season are making deer cross roads more often in October and November. Columbia had 2,952 deer-vehicle crashes last year + drivers are urged to stay alert as fall temperatures drop and deer move unpredictably.  KOMU 8
  • Columbia will hold an interactive session on snow removal next week from noon to 1 p.m. at conference rooms 1A/1B in the Daniel Boone City Building + residents are invited to register online to learn the process.  KOMU 8
  • The Missouri Department of Social Services said Monday that November SNAP benefits may not be issued if the government shutdown continues—officials are monitoring the situation and urging participants to use October funds and local food resources until federal money returns.  KOMU 8

  • Boone County home listings have reached levels last seen in 2019—buyers now have more choices with low mortgage rates and longer days on the market.  Columbia Missourian

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Columbia City Council approved an agreement with Discovery Office Park and Eurofins BioPharma to provide parking for the NCAA cross country championships scheduled for Saturday, November 22 at Gans Creek Recreation Area. The parking lots are booked from 5:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.—shuttle buses will run from the lots to serve the 3,000-5,000 expected spectators.  ABC 17
