EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Columbia Public Schools ended AMI days for snow closures because legislative changes from August 28 let the district rely on traditional snow days while still meeting state requirements. The board will update the calendars for the 2025-26 and 2026-27 school years and continue offering optional choice boards for families—parents were notified through a letter. KRCG
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The CPS board will review proposed calendar changes and eliminate AMI days—while also receiving an update on weapons detection systems and discussing plans to refinance the 2016 bond issues. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Conservation will offer a free mentored deer hunt for youth hunters aged 11 to 15 in Boone County from Nov. 1-2 at Charles Green Conservation Area. Youth hunters must purchase a permit, complete hunter education, and will hunt with a guardian and MDC mentor, with applications closing Oct. 24. KOMU 8

- ➤ Columbia HDSA chairwoman Candace Rodman hosted the Hounds for Huntington’s event at Twin Lakes Saturday—dog owners joined a walk, puppy trick contest and raffle to raise funds for research and support services that help families with the disease. KOMU 8
