- ➤ Community members held a rally in honor of Columbia resident Owen Ramsingh who was detained by ICE—local musicians played 'Rockin’ in the Free World' by Neil Young for one hour to support him. Columbia Missourian

- ➤ Columbia caterers Happy Food Meals and Honey Puddle Food and Farm offer custom catering with healthy, allergy friendly menus for small dinners and large celebrations. - ➤ Trader Joe’s in Columbia is coming soon at 201 N. Stadium Blvd in the old Macy’s building and the exterior work is nearly done. - ➤ A funeral service was held yesterday at The Crossing for Aiyanna Williams—a Stephens College student aged 21 who died after being struck by gunfire near East Broadway on Sept. 27—as family and church leaders paid their respects. KOMU 8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Columbia Public Schools said via a Friday night email that they will no longer use alternative methods of instruction days for inclement weather—traditional snow days will be used instead and school calendars for the current and next school year have been updated. The school board will discuss the change Monday. ABC 17
- ➤ The Mizzou Golden Girls announced in a Facebook post on Friday that alumna Josie Woodward, 24, had passed away - they remembered her bright smile and passion for dance and Mizzou. A GoFundMe for her family raised over $36,000 as of Friday. KOMU 8
- ➤ The Missouri Charter School Commission approved Job Point’s proposal for a charter school in Columbia on Thursday night—Job Point will now prepare a formal application and aims to open the school in August to continue its 22-year mission of helping local teens finish high school. KOMU 8
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents opposed a rezoning of a 63 acre farm near U.S. 63 and Paris Road for a possible data center after the Planning and Zoning Commission voted in favor while city staff stressed that the proposal will still need City Council approval and a full development plan — they worry about high water and utility use and the conversion of farmland. - ➤ Columbia Mayor Barbara Buffaloe proposed a collegiate advisory council with representatives from University of Missouri, Stephens College, Columbia College and Moberly Area Community College to improve downtown safety after a Stephens College student was fatally shot. MU student government also announced campus safety measures, including a safe ride program and self-defense classes in collaboration with the police — steps to help prevent future tragedies. KOMU 8
- ➤ Due to the federal government shutdown, the planned military flyover for Missouri's football game against Alabama at Memorial Stadium will not take place today at 11 a.m.—the ROTC Cannon Crew is also not appearing while the Missouri State Highway Patrol will serve as the pregame color guard. - ➤ MU Health Care's therapy dog Wyatt will retire after nearly 14 years of service at University Hospital. His owner Doug said the dog visited units such as pediatrics, oncology, and the pharmacy—bringing comfort to patients and staff. KRCG
