- ➤ The Columbia Mall is marking its 40th anniversary with a celebration (Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the H and M court). The first 40 customers will get a branded tote bag with a special gift (retailer discounts, giveaways, music, refreshments, photo spots, mini makeovers, and face painting are planned). - ➤ Local Columbia musicians are holding a rally today at City Hall at 5 p.m. to support Owen Ramsingh—Blue Note and Rose Music Hall’s head of security detained by ICE after returning from Europe. His family reported he experienced cramped conditions in a small detention room and he faces a court date on Oct. 15. ABC 17

- ➤ Woofstock, Columbia Second Chance's annual celebration, will run Sunday from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lakeside Ashland—offering live music from Bobby Showers, C. Rock City and The House Band, contests like a musical sit and dog/owner lookalike, demos, and adoptable dogs. Entry is $10 and all proceeds support local shelter animals. Inside Columbia

- ➤ Job Point has been approved to begin work on a public charter school in Columbia that will focus on workforce-related skills — the approval is the first step in a lengthy application process. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ Bachelor finalist Daisy Kent inspired a Mizzou audience today to follow their passion even when obstacles arise. She said her nonprofit — Hear Your Heart — and her children's book show that perseverance can help overcome challenges. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ Job Point in Columbia has proposed the first charter school dedicated to workforce training—hoping to receive approval on Thursday to begin its application for a YouthBuild-Workforce Charter School. Columbia Missourian
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the City of Columbia extended rideshare pickup hours downtown for the Mizzou football game by converting five taxi and rideshare stands to rideshare-only use from 5 p.m. today until 5 a.m. Oct. 12 & police say the change will help keep traffic flowing by directing drivers to proper pickup zones. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance says that from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7 Missourians will be able to review and change their Medicare plans using free Missouri SHIP assistance—trained counselors can help with plan options and subsidy questions. The department warns that fraudsters may target older adults and advises people not to share personal details. KOMU 8

- ➤ Stone Hill Winery in Hermann offers daily complimentary tours and a tasting room where visitors experience traditional French winemaking—its underground cellars keep wine at a natural 50°F. The family-run winery, revived after Prohibition and now serving meals at Vintage 1847 Restaurant, is an appealing day trip for local wine lovers. COMO Magazine
