COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Boone County seniors have until Oct. 1 to apply for a real estate tax relief program aimed at exempting them from certain property tax increases.  ABC 17

CRIME NEWS

  • Cadilac Derrick was convicted on five charges, including manslaughter, in a 2022 Columbia double-homicide case, and sentencing is set for November 12.  KOMU 8
  • Mark Achterberg pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and illegal gun possession in a 2021 Columbia shooting, sentenced to 20 years.  ABC 17
  • A 61-year-old Columbia man faces first-degree assault and property damage charges following an alleged attack that left the victim with severe injuries.  ABC 17
  • Crystal Umfress, owner of Casa Maria's Mexican Cantina in Columbia, was arrested on charges of arson in Butler County and forgery in Dunklin County, and has posted bond.  KOMU 8
  • Walter Montejo is set to stand trial on December 10 for a crash on I-70 that resulted in the deaths of two women, facing charges including involuntary manslaughter.  KOMU 8
