- ➤ Columbia Parks and Recreation will hold a meeting Monday from 4-6 p.m. near the Wynna Faye Tap-Elbert Amphitheater to get community feedback on revised designs for the Douglass Park basketball courts. KOMU 8
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Thursday evening, community members gathered at Again Street Park to honor Columbia's homicide victims during the National Day of Remembrance for Homicide victims—an event established by Congress in 2007. The candlelight vigil, attended by families and violence prevention officials, called for stronger community action against rising crime. KOMU 8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Researchers from PRIME Center (tracking Missouri student achievement growth since COVID-19) and St. Louis University presented new data on elementary and middle school progress at a conference on Mizzou’s Memorial Union on Thursday. School superintendents plan to use the findings to improve education policies statewide, with Columbia Public Schools noting two schools in the state’s top 10 for math growth (a key highlight). KRCG

- ➤ Missouri Governor said the region is growing as the first United flight from Chicago landed yesterday at Columbia's airport—after United had halted flights during the COVID-19 pandemic. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ Starting Monday, September 29, the southeast sidewalk on North Eighth Street in front of Miller Hall on Columbia College will be closed while the northeast side remains open. On Tuesday, September 30, Hitt Street between Cherry and Locust streets and the east sidewalk by First Presbyterian Church will close for repairs—vehicles must use Hitt Street to access the Tenth and Cherry Parking Garage, and work will finish on Friday, October 3. - ➤ Researchers at MU created a new portable system to test for concussions by measuring body movement and reaction time.
