- ➤ Access Art raised over $21,000—$4,000 came from Thursday night's auction—to support the nonprofit's art programs. Columbia Missourian
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that Boone County wages grew close to 3% from January to March – with an average weekly wage of $1,186, the highest in Mid-Missouri. Boone County also recorded the largest year-over-year employment increase among Missouri’s seven largest counties. ABC 17
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Columbia City Council is awaiting City Manager De'Carlon Seewood’s signature to pass an educational affiliation agreement with the University of Missouri that will let medical residents shadow staff at Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services — the program will start next academic term and let students gain hands-on experience in areas such as vaccinations, STD testing, and tuberculosis testing. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Department of Natural Resources asks Missourians to submit drought reports using the online Condition Monitoring Observer Results system to track rapid weather changes—photos can be included with each report. The DNR says this information will guide local, state, and national decision-makers as they assess drought conditions. KOMU 8
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A Kansas City district court ordered the University of Missouri to allow Mizzou Students for Justice in Palestine to join the Homecoming parade after President Mun Choi denied the group over safety concerns and parade policies that limit political expression — the parade will start at 9 a.m. Sept. 27. - ➤ The Missouri Department of Transportation said work on the Highway 5 bridge over Bear Creek in Glasgow will continue into October because an underground spring required extra digging and a deteriorated roadway foundation needed more repairs—temporary traffic signals and a narrowed lane will stay in place until the project is complete. - ➤ Columbia will start pavement maintenance next week on several streets including South Providence Outer Road, Buttonwood Drive, Madrid Lane, and more. Crews will work from 7 a.m.—7 p.m. daily and finish by Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. with no parking signs posted 24 hours before work begins. ABC 17
