BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ An Ameren gas journeyman team from Columbia called Complete Combustion returned from the National Gas Rodeo held Sept. 10-12 at Turfway Park in Kentucky and placed 9th among teams from Missouri and Illinois. The five-member team led by captain Robert Hillerman II competed in events like meter set and service installation to test their skills. Columbia Daily Tribune
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Columbia Regional Airport added more flights as demand increases. United will bring back routes to Denver and Chicago—while American will offer extra flights on peak travel days. Columbia Missourian
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The University of Missouri emailed faculty and staff yesterday to advise them on careful use of social media so they do not seem to speak for the university—guidelines noted that posts causing workplace disruption may result in discipline or termination. - ➤ North Callaway Middle School in Auxvasse had its gym roof significantly damaged during storms on Sept 15 and no injuries were reported. The school is closed until repairs are done—photos showed a hole in the roof and damage to the gym floor, two classrooms, and a storage area. ABC 17
- ➤ A Lincoln University student died Tuesday night at Anthony Hall when first responders arrived at 5 p.m.—authorities stated foul play is not suspected and the cause of death remains undisclosed. The university has offered counseling services to help students during this difficult time. ABC 17

- ➤ Brown marmorated stink bugs will soon seek shelter in Missouri homes as fall approaches, and experts advise homeowners to seal gaps, repair screens, and reduce moisture to keep the pests out—using a vacuum to remove them without releasing odors is also recommended. Columbia Daily Tribune

- ➤ A Cole County man won $50,000 on a Powerball ticket he bought at Break Time on Roanoke Drive for the September 6 drawing—he said he let the machine pick his numbers and his win will help cover his wedding expenses. KRCG
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ State leaders and childcare advocates launched a pilot program called Missouri Child Care Works that offers childcare employers up to $625,000 for start-up costs and workforce incentives, letting families save as much as 75% on expenses. The pilot begins in November and aims to ease the childcare shortage and boost the economy (with shortages costing $1.3 billion in lost activity each year). KRCG
- ➤ Governor Mike Kehoe ordered the Missouri State Capitol dome to shine blue today for the United Way of Central Missouri's 100-year celebration, and the blue light will remain through Friday. KOMU 8
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ MU Health Care will offer more than 20 flu and COVID-19 vaccination clinics in September and October across central Missouri. In Columbia, car-side shots will take place at South Providence Medical Park on Oct.—18 and Oct.—25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and eligible patients must self-attest to high-risk status. KOMU 8
- ➤ MU School of Medicine received nearly $4 million in a federal grant to open a new telehealth research center—designed to improve rural health care and reduce patient costs. The center launched Sept. 1 and will study telehealth using Medicaid data analysis, artificial intelligence, and machine learning while partnering with the University of Mississippi Medical Center and Michigan State University.
