Creekside Pet Center and Pierpont General Store hosted their fifth annual Pups, Pints and Petting Zoos event Sunday afternoon at Pierpont to raise funds for Columbia Second Chance — a local animal rescue organization.

Community members visited the event and submitted seven applications for adoption.

Diaper Need Awareness Week runs Sept.

14–20 as First Chance for Children hosts diaper events. Today at 8:30 a.m. an open house is at 1002 Fay St. — Tuesday offers a drive-thru from 1–6, Wednesday a birthday party 4–7 at 504 Fay St., and Friday a wrapping marathon.

On Saturday, around 100 people gathered at Stephens Lake Park for the city's first Chariot Festival of Joy, where Danavir Goswami led mantra chanting before a community procession and feast — a free event with live music, henna, and snacks.

Today, the Columbia School Board will adopt its five-year improvement plan and review counseling programs at a 6:30 p.m. meeting in the Aslin Administration Building—where the board will also swear in Paul Wagner and honor Battle High School graduate Izayah Christopher for winning a national student award.
