- ➤ Love Columbia's new Love Forward Homes complex in downtown Columbia is on track and will welcome families starting in January. The $3.4 million project is funded by federal American Rescue Plan money from the city and Boone County and includes six three-bedroom and four two-bedroom units for transitional housing — families will receive financial, housing and career coaching while saving 30% of their income. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the State Board of Education are asking Missourians to comment on a statewide strategic education plan through a survey on DESE's website—responses remain anonymous. The survey stays open until 5 p.m. on Sept. 26 so that the state can gather insights to guide future policy. KOMU 8
- ➤ The University of Missouri declined the application from Mizzou Students for Justice in Palestine to join this year's homecoming parade due to safety concerns—this decision follows last year's similar ruling as the university updated its parade policy and offered an alternate space for the group to share its views. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Missouri Attorney General Catherine Hanaway announced Thursday that pornographic websites must verify users' ages by Nov. 30 to prevent minors from accessing explicit content+ sites that do not comply will face civil penalties under the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act. KOMU 8
- ➤ The Columbia Housing Authority began demolition on Park Avenue public housing apartments Monday to remove 70 aging units and replace them with 79 energy-efficient homes after relocating residents. CEO Randy Cole said that after site work and foundation work before winter, rebuilt units will come online mid-next year and a third block will be demolished next year—all part of the $27 million project funded by local and state support plus tax credits. - ➤ The City of Columbia will host two educational sessions on transit options for residents who do not drive—one from noon to 1 p.m. and the other from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 30 at Columbia City Hall as part of the new Community Classroom series. KOMU 8
- ➤ County Clerk Brianna Lennon said that new congressional maps could hurt voter turnout if changes to precinct and voting lines occur without all the needed details—she does not yet have that information. Columbia Missourian
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ MU Health Care advised Mizzou Athletics to move the kickoff time of today's football game against Louisiana from 3 p.m. to noon to help protect fans and players from heat. Memorial Stadium will have two aid stations, clear signage, and standby ambulances — steps taken to support heat safety during the game. KOMU 8
- ➤ Noah Gilion—diagnosed with osteosarcoma in January and having part of his leg amputated in April—is now cancer-free and rang the bell at the MU-KU game to express his gratitude. Columbia Missourian

- ➤ The Missouri Department of Transportation said work on Interstate 70 is causing delays for fans commuting to a Mizzou game today, and drivers westbound near Grain Valley may see a lane closure at 7 p.m. + motorists should plan ahead and allow extra time while checking project updates. KOMU 8
