ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 34-year-old man from Centralia died Tuesday night in Audrain County when he drove his 2006 Ford east on W. Monroe St. and crossed the centerline to hit a 1999 Freightliner—its 72-year-old driver from Mexico remained uninjured as authorities investigate the crash. ABC 17
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Columbia Public Works Department will begin phase two of construction on the roundabout at West Route K and West Old Plank Road on September 8 (this phase will close West Route K near the Break Time gas station driveway and limit access to Maple Meadows Drive) and expects to finish in early October with the full project completed by early winter. Drivers are advised to follow detours and posted signs. KRCG
- ➤ Columbia has selected William Rataj as the new director of Housing and Neighborhood Services and he will begin on Sept. 29. Rataj brings over 29 years of experience in community development and will work with city staff and community partners—following housing study recommendations. KOMU 8
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Missouri health officials reported that kindergarten vaccination rates have fallen since the pandemic and now fall below the level needed for herd immunity — the current rate stands at 90% for essential measles shots. Dr. Laura Morris warned that rising religious exemptions and national measles cases may lead to outbreaks if the trend continues. KRCG

- ➤ Downtown Columbia bars are stepping up security ahead of the upcoming Mizzou home opener against Central Arkansas at Memorial Stadium—preparing for larger crowds due to a new ticket claims process. One bar will have about 70 security staff and extra private patrols to check guests with handheld metal detectors to keep the area safe. ABC 17
