ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Two Hallsville residents died in a tractor-trailer crash on Highway 154 east of Perry late Saturday—authorities said the Ford Escape did not yield and the woman was not wearing a seat belt while the tractor-trailer driver from Belvidere, Tennessee was unharmed. ABC 17
- ➤ A Columbia man on a 2001 Honda Shadow crashed on Route A and County Road 122 at 4 p.m. on August 25 in Howard County and was airlifted to University Hospital with serious injuries after his motorcycle left the road, struck a fence, and overturned—MSHP confirmed he was wearing a helmet. KRCG

- ➤ Jarvis Chevis, 34, was held without bond after a 35-minute chase on August 22 that ended when his car ran over a fire hydrant at Ash Street and McBaine Avenue — injuring three officers and leading to felony charges for drug possession, assault, and resisting arrest. KRCG
- ➤ The Columbia Police Department released a new public crime data dashboard that shows daily updated statistics from reviewed police reports—residents can search for crimes like burglaries or gun offenses by neighborhood. - ➤ Columbia Police Chief Jill Schlude unveiled a new Data Dashboard Public Crime Map that lets residents filter reported crimes by date, type, weapon and location—providing access to data from the last 28 days or a specific period. KRCG
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Columbia College boosted campus safety by installing new lights, cameras and hiring extra officers as students begin classes Monday. The college also spent $2.2 million for campus improvements—including a remodeled student commons and refreshed library. ABC 17
- ➤ The University of Missouri (Mizzou) saw a rise in enrollment on August 25 with over 31,300 students. The increase includes over 6,000 first-time students, 1,200 transfers and 1,400 graduate students (figures confirmed). KRCG
