ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported 843 school bus crashes statewide in 2024 that resulted in seven deaths and noted most accidents occurred between 3 and 4 p.m.—officials urged drivers to give school buses room when their lights flash to protect students.  ABC 17
  • A Columbia man riding a 2001 Honda Shadow was seriously injured in a Howard County crash Sunday afternoon when his bike left the road—hitting a fence and overturning—and he was taken to University Hospital.  ABC 17

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Missouri held its annual Tiger Walk on Sunday to mark the start of fall classes; freshmen walked toward campus and Jesse Hall for a welcome from alumni & community members. The tradition started in 1995 and features speeches from university leaders, a run through The Columns, and treats from Buck's Ice Cream.  KOMU 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Capital Paving will begin mill and overlay pavement maintenance on several Columbia residential streets Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.—motorists should avoid parking where posted signs are displayed as work occurs daily weather permitting. The project covers segments on Windsor and Pratt Streets and may adjust depending on weather.  KOMU 8
