BUSINESS NEWS

  • Jill Dudley and Kevin Leet started Show-Me Dinosaurs in spring to bring life-size dinosaur costumes to events across Missouri. The business holds interactive, educational shows for kids and donates monthly events to local nonprofits — offering fossil dig boxes and hands-on activities.  KOMU 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • MU cancelled the Legion of Black Collegians' Black 2 Class Block Party scheduled for Friday because the event title was seen as excluding people by race+half of the board met with administrators including Angela King Taylor and Mun Choi to discuss the decision and campus safety.  KOMU 8
  • The remodeled terminal at Columbia Regional Airport was completed and now sets the stage for launching the future MACC flight school — officials say the project will advance pilot training in the area.  Columbia Missourian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Columbia Public Schools has approved a 16-cent property tax rate decrease as rising property values in Boone County and senior tax freezes keep revenue nearly the same—homeowners now keep more money. Chief Financial Officer Heather McArthur explained that higher residential values and a growing tax gap may increase the loss of revenue over time.  KOMU 8
  • The Missouri Department of Natural Resources' Division of State Parks announced that applications for the 2026 Land and Water Conservation Fund grants are now available for cities, counties and public school districts to fund outdoor recreation projects—applications must be submitted online by Nov. 14.  KOMU 8

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Realtor.com data shows that Boone County home prices increased in May with the median home selling for $328,301 — an 11.3% rise from April; single-family homes climbed 15% from $293,472 to a median of $337,500. This data reflects a strong housing market with sales figures based on recorded deed transactions.  Columbia Daily Tribune
