CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Kansas man allegedly broke into a Columbia home Sunday morning and pointed a gun at the resident—he faces charges of burglary, kidnapping, armed criminal action, assault and stealing and is held on a $250,000 bond with a court appearance set for Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. ABC 17
- ➤ Isaiah Nimray Goins pleaded not guilty to upgraded first-degree murder and armed criminal action charges at his Monday court appearance—charges brought after a grand jury indicted him for killing Misty Guzman-Castro on July 19 near Lake of the Woods Road—and he is held without bond at Boone County Jail. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Columbia is accepting applications from residents 18 and older for its free eight-session Civic Academy that will run from September 25 through November 13, with sessions held every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.—enrollment is limited to 30 participants, and the program will include tours and public safety simulations with dinner provided. - ➤ A section of Country Club Drive in Columbia is closed until 5 p.m. today as crews repair a damaged stormwater pipe found after a collapse during resurfacing work between Club Court and Fairway Drive — the city advises drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to take alternate routes. KOMU 8
- ➤ The City Council (local government leaders) will hold its second public hearing Monday night at City Hall to review the 2026 budget and property tax rates after tax revenue came in 3 percent short last year. The council will vote on the final budget on Sept. 15 and proposals include a 12 percent boost in water utility revenue while cutting water bills for 65 percent of residential customers (a move driven by lower revenue expectations). - ➤ The Missouri Department of Revenue announced that child and adult diapers, feminine hygiene products and incontinence products will be tax exempt starting August 28 after Governor Mike Kehoe signed HB 594. The bill lowers taxes on these items by 3%—and the law clearly defines what qualifies for the exemption. KRCG

- ➤ Mizzou Athletics announced new game day rules for the 2025 football season.
