CRIME NEWS

  • A Columbia woman, Sandra D. Butler, was charged with second degree drug trafficking after police discovered 0.97 grams of fentanyl during a July 26 traffic stop prompted by expired temporary tags and a K9 unit alert—she posted a $6,500 bond and her initial court appearance is set for September 26.  KRCG
  • Columbia Police arrested David Adams (44) and Julius Cureton (37) on Thursday in connection with the December 2017 robbery and homicide of Augustus Roberts, with investigators noting the home invasion was linked to drug activity.  KOMU 8

CULTURE NEWS

  • Trumans Bar & Grill is hosting its first Bourbon Fest this weekend. On Sunday at 6 p.m., guests will enjoy over 20 American bourbons in flights, classic cocktails and mini-cocktails while live music from One More Dollar plays from 6-9 p.m., and no cover charge or reservations are required.  Inside Columbia

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MoDOT moved eastbound traffic onto new I-70 lanes last night in Callaway County and reopened the Route J ramps after about three and a half months of closure—westbound work to shift traffic into the median will begin next week. Officials urge drivers to follow safety rules as construction continues.  KOMU 8

HEALTH NEWS

  • A health expert said there is no documented treatment for a rare brain infection called primary amebic meningoencephalitis that may have been contracted at Lake of the Ozarks. Dr. Rojas Moreno explained the infection causes signs like headache, fever, stiff neck, and vomiting one to 12 days after exposure—people should get medical care if these symptoms occur.  ABC 17
