CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Boone County grand jury indicted Isaiah Goins (26) with first-degree murder and armed criminal action after he shot Misty Guzman Castro in her car on North Lake of the Woods Road on July 19; he will be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Boone County Courthouse. KOMU 8
- ➤ A Columbia man named Dale Bosley was charged with stealing a tree from near North Hinkson Creek Road on January 1 after a conservation agent spotted a 12-foot section of black walnut tied to a trailer and tracks that showed the tree had been cut from its grove. KRCG
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Columbia fire administrators offered dorm fire safety tips to college students preparing for college yesterday. They stressed the need to know dorm evacuation plans and avoid overloading electrical outlets—advice meant to prevent fire risks in dorms. KRCG
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sewer repairs on Ashley Street starting Monday, Aug. 18, near the Ashley Street Center—home to the Room at the Inn shelter—will force Go COMO's Orange Route to detour via temporary stops at Lakeview Avenue and Stone Street. The work is expected to finish by 5 p.m. on Aug. 28 and Columbia Public Works will post signs about the change. Columbia Daily Tribune
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services said a Missouri resident contracted Naegleria fowleri after water skiing at the Lake of the Ozarks days ago and is now in intensive care—public health officials are investigating the exposure and note that such infections remain very rare.
