- ➤ Tickets for the Columbia Farmers Market's annual Farm to Table dinner are 66% sold ahead of the event on Sept. 8 at the MU Health Care Pavilion at Clary-Shy Park. The dinner will offer buffet-style food from local vendors, live music, and a silent auction — plans that include family-style seating for 200 and reduced ticket prices to support market programs like matching funds for SNAP beneficiaries. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Columbia woman, Jacquelin Ramirez, was charged with a felony after she allegedly moved a security camera—its view shifted just before shots were fired on Saturday night at the 4400 block of Brown Station Road—and she posted a $1,500 bond as she faces a tampering with evidence charge. ABC 17
- ➤ Columbia Police are asking everyone to stay away from Stephens Lake Park on East Broadway — they are handling an active incident — and no further details have been shared. ABC 17
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At Monday’s board meeting, Columbia Public Schools officials stressed that rising attendance—up from 78.8% to 80.6%—has helped boost test scores, while they noted a 15.5% increase in behavior incidents. They also announced that new superintendent Jeff Klein, a change to DS Bus Lines with enhanced safety features, and a revised transfer policy will support the upcoming school year starting Aug 19. - ➤ The University of Missouri has received a $20 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy and a matching state gift to build a 33,500-square-foot center at Discovery Ridge that will produce radioisotopes for cancer research, clinical work and national security.
