- ➤ Community Powerhouse held its back to school event Friday at the MU Health Care Pavilion on Ash St from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., where students and families exchanged free supplies and donations; organizers served 1,800 people and announced an immunization clinic is happening today at the Public Health and Human Services building, with more events scheduled on Aug 14 and Aug 17 (donations can be dropped off at 601 Business Loop 70W, Suite 204 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday). - ➤ Yesterday, Columbia Police Department announced that its retired K-9, Gorrit, an 11-year-old Dutch Shepherd who served from 2015 until his retirement in January, had died. He was partnered with Sergeant Jamie Dowler — a service that touched the community. KRCG

- ➤ A Columbia man and woman were charged with drug trafficking after a Boonville traffic stop on Thursday at 1:07 a.m.—officers found nine small bags holding 2.29 grams of crack cocaine laced with fentanyl in the car. KRCG

- ➤ Richard King and Phil Costello started a small music venue in 1980 that grew into a Columbia landmark—The Blue Note—and changed the local music scene.
