ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded to a 10:10 a.m. call Wednesday morning at the 300 block of Parkwood Court in west Columbia after a patient fell and had a steel rod impale their leg, and crews removed metal and railroad ties to prevent further injuries + the patient was taken to a nearby hospital.  ABC 17

CRIME NEWS

  • Columbia police requested a no-bond arrest warrant for St. Louis man Jalon James Jamar Pittman Jr. after he allegedly fled a July 29 incident involving a vehicle theft, shots fired, and theft of items valued at about $25,100—he faces multiple felony charges including armed criminal action and first-degree assault.  KRCG
  • On Tuesday night, August 6, Ashland Police responded at 9:24 p.m. to a home in the 900 block of James Court to serve a full U.S. extradition warrant—after nearly two hours of standoff when suspect Alexander Edward Nolan, 26, refused to exit, he surrendered following negotiations and was taken to Boone County Jail without bond.  KRCG
  • Columbia man Daren Hart, 57, was charged on Wednesday with second-degree assault and armed criminal action after he allegedly attacked a woman with a cane near a creek on Monday evening — police said she was injured, officers arrived at 7:30 p.m. on the 1200 block of Lakeview Avenue, and he is held without bond at Boone County Jail.  ABC 17
  • A Columbia man, Calvin Lee Gray, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 65 months in federal prison for stealing customer data to fraudulently obtain $357,582 for travel, luxury goods and gambling + his mother also pleaded guilty and will be sentenced on Thursday.  KRCG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Columbia will close Vandiver Drive for through traffic from Sylvan Lane to Nelwood Drive beginning Monday, Aug. 11 as the city replaces eight stormwater inlets and old pipes. The project—funded by an American Rescue Plan Act partial grant—will finish by Oct. 31 to help prevent flooding.  KOMU 8
  • Boone County Commission said it will quickly expand the senior tax break that voters approved Tuesday and will propose the amendment at an upcoming meeting to keep tax rates steady for qualifying seniors.  ABC 17
