Missouri is holding its annual back-to-school sales tax holiday from Friday, Aug.
7 — Sunday, Aug. 9. Shoppers statewide can save on clothing, school supplies, and computers purchased for personal use.
🎓 Education
Columbia Public Schools held a ribbon-cutting at Eagle Bluffs Elementary School — located at 5400 S.
Sinclair Road next to John Warner Middle School — on Monday to mark the completed building that will open later this month for the 2026-27 school year.
🏛️ Government
Columbia Public Schools will go to trial on Sept.
10 in Jefferson City to contest a state law that the district says unfairly targets Boone County. Meanwhile, groups are planning to open charter schools in fall 2027.
Boone County will lose Text-to-911 service from Aug.
5 through Sept. 1 as officials upgrade to a new 911 network; calls to 911 remain the primary way to reach emergency assistance+ automated texts will guide residents during the outage.
🏥 Health
Boone Health held a dedication ceremony for Ambulance Station No. 12 on Route K near South Bethel Church Road Monday morning.
The station aims to cut response times by 4 to 5 minutes through a partnership with Boone Health & Boone County Fire Protection District.
Active cyclosporiasis cases in Missouri increased to 1,095 as of Sunday, including 90 in Boone County by Monday morning.
Local health officials have not linked these cases to the national outbreak reported in Michigan + investigations are ongoing.
