ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A 20-year-old Mexico man was injured in a car crash on Route Z north of St. Charles Road in Boone County at 2:20 a.m. on Saturday — his 2013 GMC Sierra left the road, he was not wearing a seatbelt, and he received moderate injuries before being taken by ambulance to University Hospital. KRCG

- ➤ A family in Columbia is asking anyone with information to help solve Rickie Dunn’s 2014 murder—police have yet to make an arrest and Crime Stoppers hope a tip will lead to the killer. KOMU 8
- ➤ The family of slain Danielle Marine is asking the Columbia community for help finding her killer—she was fatally shot with friend Antonio Houston in 2019 in a case of mistaken identity. KOMU 8
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Department of Conservation is buying seed in Columbia from residents for a variety of trees and shrubs to grow bare-root seedlings at its nursery in Licking. Residents can drop off seed at the Central Regional Office on set dates from mid-August to the end of October and are advised to call ahead — using 573-815-7900 — to confirm their seed is needed. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials report a $40 million gap in the proposed 2026 budget as spending nears $600 million while revenue is expected to be $560 million, with cuts affecting police and fire departments. The City Council will take public input at 7 p.m. today at City Hall—budget changes will start when the new cycle begins Oct. 1. ABC 17
- ➤ Today, Columbia City Council meets at 7 p.m. at Daniel Boone City Building to review the proposed 2026 budget that raises personnel spending by 5.9% and increases tax revenue while planning to take public input on water rates, Opportunity Campus developments, and renewable energy goals—city leaders will consider formally adopting the plan in September. - ➤ Today, Columbia City Council will review proposed water rate changes, which include a base fee increase and tiered usage adjustments effective in October, while also offering a public hearing for community input.
