ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A Columbia man died when a 20-year-old driver lost control of a 2021 Ram 1500 on Route AB east of U.S. 63 at 5 a.m. on Sunday, crossing the center and striking a 23-year-old pedestrian near a parked 2020 Toyota Camry while the driver suffered moderate injuries. ABC 17
- ➤ A woman fell off a cliff near mile marker 6 at the Lake of the Ozarks on Sunday afternoon and was airlifted to University Hospital in Columbia with serious injuries. KOMU 8
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Columbia Police responded to a stabbing on the 300 block of Park Avenue on July 26 at about 9:56 p.m. when a victim was found with hand injuries and suspect Glenn Bennett, 36, who was intoxicated, fled the scene but later received treatment and was arrested for armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon— he is now in Boone County jail. - ➤ Logboat Brewing Co. hosted its new Vintage & Vinyl festival in its outdoor area where live music played and raffles ran every hour. The event offered a fun chance for local visitors to enjoy community music and activity. Columbia Missourian
- ➤ Mid-Missouri Dancers launched a summer series offering European folk dance lessons to residents, funded by the Columbia Office of Cultural Affairs — the program teaches styles such as mazurkas, circles, and polkas. Saturday’s lesson featured French dances with live music, and family-friendly sessions for young children will continue in August. KOMU 8
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Corn sweat is the water vapor released by corn plants through evapotranspiration, which adds billions of gallons of moisture to Missouri's air—this process contributes about 10% of the overall humidity while bodies of water supply the remainder.
