  • Columbia residents met Saturday to share their rental struggles amid a fast-growing housing market—some pointing to steep rent hikes like a jump from $593 to $908 and fears of becoming priced out. The Columbia Tenants Union will push for rent control, shorter lease gaps, and stronger legal protections as new developments continue and renters, including college students, face tough housing choices.  ABC 17

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A car crashed into a home in Columbia with no injuries reported — the homeowners said they heard the crash while inside and police are checking the cause.  KOMU 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Missouri State Board of Education has kept a teacher advisory seat empty for seven years — a role designed for an active classroom teacher with at least five years of experience — as state officials said there is no plan yet to fill the vacancy.  KOMU 8

  • Maple and Primrose made their first appearance on Saturday at Toasty Goat Coffee Co.—the coffee shop introduced the goats as a new draw for its customers.  Columbia Missourian

  • Briian Bynum, an 18-year-old from Mexico High School, became the first student in Mexico to commit to college for eSports after signing with Moberly Area Community College in April. He will start his first season this fall on an eSports scholarship — his achievement is already drawing local attention.  KOMU 8
