CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Boone County Prosecuting Attorney Roger Johnson said Donald J. Legleiter was charged with second-degree murder—adding armed criminal action and leaving the scene—to replace an earlier assault charge after he allegedly backed his SUV into motorcyclist Jeffrie W. Cash on Allen Street in McBaine, who died from his injuries, and Legleiter remains in jail on no bond. ABC 17
- ➤ A Columbia man, Kenneth R. Williams, was charged with drug trafficking when detectives executed a search warrant on June 26th and found 4.62 pounds of cocaine, 2.62 pounds of methamphetamine, 5.95 grams of heroin — along with a loaded handgun — at the residence he shared with Asia J. Schafer. KRCG
- ➤ Columbia police arrested Isaiah N. Goins—26—for charges of First Degree Murder, Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Use of a Weapon on Sunday at noon on Clark Lane after a sergeant found a woman shot dead in a vehicle near a residence on North Lake of the Woods Road on Saturday. KRCG
- ➤ Columbia police said an Ashland man was arrested Monday after he allegedly hit a person with his vehicle on Vandiver Drive—he is accused of punching one victim and threatening another before fleeing to his home where he was later taken into custody, with one victim receiving serious injuries and taken to the hospital. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Columbia and local union LiUNA 955 have been in wage negotiations since April and will meet again on July 24 — union leaders say the current 1% cost-of-living adjustment falls short, noting the city’s over $6 million spent on outsourced labor. City Manager De’Carlon Seewood said negotiations remain open as both sides work to address staffing challenges and improve pay. ABC 17
- ➤ The Columbia City Council completed work sessions on the proposed $558 million revenue budget for fiscal year 2026 which adds $20 million over last year and calls for 19.5 new positions in police & health, parks & utilities. Public town halls will be held on Aug 11 and additional budget hearings are scheduled on Aug 18, Sept 2, and Sept 15 to gather community feedback and review adjustments to utility rates and fund management.
