COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ American Red Cross of Central and Northern Missouri announced it will break ground on a new headquarters in Columbia next week that will include a blood collection donor center and replace its leased facility at 1511 Providence Road. The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday. KOMU 8
- ➤ Columbia NPR station KBIA launched an emergency fundraising campaign to raise $500,000 after federal cuts eliminated its planned public broadcasting support over two years—local listeners are urged to help maintain life-saving alerts and trusted news. KBIA warned that without this support, its ability to serve the community during emergencies could be at risk. KOMU 8
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On June 8, Osage Beach paramedics Joe Jackson and EMT Allie Johnson responded to a call after a five-year-old fell ten feet and began seizing, providing life-saving care—despite a delayed ambulance—by transporting the child to Lake Regional Hospital and then Columbia for surgery, and City Administration later honored them along with EMT Floyd Handy—recognizing their quick response—for their heroic actions. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Randall Russell Fox, a 52-year-old Columbia man accused of killing his ex-wife Sara Fox and her mother Marcia Hess in May 2024, will face a four-day jury trial in April 2026 — he is charged with second-degree murder, armed criminal action and tampering with evidence. KOMU 8
- ➤ Sentencing was delayed for Collin Knight, a 25-year-old Hartsburg man who pleaded guilty to killing his father in September 2022—he told Judge Joshua Devine he disagreed with his plea deal and a status hearing is set for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 4. ABC 17

- ➤ Mizzou halted demolition plans for radium-contaminated Pickard Hall and will conduct further tests to decide if the building (132-year-old) should be torn down. Columbia Missourian
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The annual Show-Me State Games began Friday in Columbia and drew about 15,000 athletes and families for over 40 sports at venues + Mizzou Arena hosted the opening ceremony at 7 p.m.. City officials spent $20,000 to support the event and warned participants to stay hydrated amid extreme heat. ABC 17
