COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ RC pilots gathered Saturday afternoon at a field in Columbia to fly their planes at the summer Fly In organized by the Mid-Missouri Radio Control Society. Many pilots with decades of experience shared their passion—one member said he plans to introduce local youth to STEM skills through the hobby. KOMU 8
- ➤ On Saturday, children ages 4 to 15 ran through a muddy obstacle course at Gans Creek Recreational Area where the youngest raced a one kilometer course and older kids ran two or three kilometer routes. Event organizers said staff and volunteers helped kids navigate obstacles like a bouncy house and tunnels from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. — the race was non-competitive so each child competed only against themselves. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Two people died and two others were injured when a 2016 Kia crossed the center line on South Clark Street in Mexico at 6:39 a.m.—a 2012 Chrysler was struck and emergency crews used extrication tools while the road remained blocked until near 8 a.m. KOMU 8
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Missouri will raise vehicle licensing fees by 50% starting next month—this increase will help pay for private office services—affecting drivers when they renew their registrations. KOMU 8
