CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Montgomery County woman, Joann Finch from Montgomery City, was charged with 23 felonies on Thursday after she allegedly sexually assaulted a child for several years beginning in April 2021, admitted to the abuse in a Jan. 17 interview, and had a warrant issued with no bond set—no court date has been scheduled. - ➤ Love Columbia’s savings program—partnering with Mid America Bank—is designed to provide financial literacy training and stability to individuals in need. The initiative will offer essential financial support to help people manage their money better. Columbia Missourian
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Mike Kehoe signed a new law on July 9 that bans marriage for anyone under 18 and stops the state from seizing foster children’s Social Security benefits for routine care — it also voids non-disclosure agreements in child sexual abuse cases. - ➤ Governor Mike Kehoe signed Danny’s Law into effect on July 9 after a three-year effort by the Mizzou Greek Alliance to protect students by shielding whistle-blowers from criminal liability for reporting hazing—while hazing actions will still face penalties. - ➤ Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe signed a bill Thursday to repeal the paid sick leave law approved by voters last year, with the repeal set to take effect Aug. 28 and ending the accrual of earned leave. Business groups supported the move while workers’ rights advocates criticized it, and a new ballot initiative to reinstate the law may be considered. KRCG
