Columbia nonprofits Habitat for Humanity and COMO CraftCycle will celebrate one year of their creative reuse partnership with an event starting at 3 p.m. Friday, July 10 at Habitat ReStore (1305 Business Loop 70 E) that features a ribbon cutting at 3:30 p.m. and community activities.

Wednesday, July 8, BCFPD lowered flags at half-staff to honor Assistant Chief Matthew Tobben as the department marked two years since his fatal water rescue near Bear Creek.

Tobben served 19 years with BCFPD, Missouri Task Force 1, and the Union Fire Protection District.

On Wednesday, dozens of Columbia residents gathered at the State Historical Society of Missouri to read the Declaration of Independence in an event celebrating America’s 250th birthday — part of the Show-Me America 250 festivities.

Maplewood House, built in 1877 by pioneer Slater Lenoir, opened its three restored rooms with period furnishings to the public on July 3, 1976 in Columbia's Nifong Park.

The house continues to showcase its original design details (preserving a century of local heritage).

Columbia collected nearly 110 tons of recycling in the 10 days since curbside pickup resumed on June 15.

The ramp from U.S. 54 to westbound I-70 in Kingdom City reopened Wednesday morning after being closed for over two months, with construction beginning April 24 as part of MoDOT's Improve I-70 plan to add a third lane between Columbia & Kingdom City.

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services released its annual maternal mortality report Wednesday, finding cardiovascular diseases and mental health conditions caused most pregnancy-related deaths from 2019 to 2023 (Black women's risk was 2.5 times higher and 79% of deaths were preventable).
