COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Doug Fristoe, who lived in West Ash for five years, saw his neighbors come together when his landlord planned to renovate his rental and raise the rent — they quickly raised over $22,000, helped him secure a $100,000 loan and a house sold at appraised value so he could buy a home close by. He has already started fixing up his new house and garden and thanked everyone for their support. KOMU 8
- ➤ On Saturday, when the Humane Society’s washing machine broke, residents picked up all the laundry in four hours—also asking about donations for new washers. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ June is recognized nationally as Men's Mental Health Month—local violence prevention official D'Markus Thomas Brown said rising gun violence in Columbia may desensitize men to trauma and contribute to only 1 in 4 seeking help, while sharing trauma experiences and using tools like the ACE test can help address past abuse's effects on mental health.
