  • On Saturday, Second Chance celebrated the opening of its new clinic building with an open house that featured a climate-controlled pet food storage building, an in-house clinic for spay and neuter procedures, and renovated adoption spaces with emergency dog rooms—Giulia Hall said the center will serve as a food pantry for pet supplies while plans progress for a memorial garden with paw print designs made from river rocks.  ABC 17
  • Since early June, Columbia has seen a heat dome with six days over 90 degrees, and El Poblano Grill & Cantina is giving free ice to outdoor workers who bring their own container+ local crews say the gesture helps them beat the heat.  KOMU 8
  • On Saturday morning, Spirit of '76 Fireworks hosted a firework safety class for kids with Cooper County firefighters to explain the proper precautions before Fourth of July weekend. The class stressed that having water buckets — each holding three to five gallons—is key, along with adult supervision and proper setup to keep everyone safe.  KOMU 8

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 16-year-old boy from Hallsville was moderately injured after two 2000 Kawasaki jet skis collided at the Lake of the Ozarks on Friday — one vessel turned into the path of another while both riders wore life vests, and he was taken to Lake Regional Hospital by EMS.  KRCG
