Abdul-Kaba Abdullah has been named president and CEO of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce — he will start on Wednesday, July 1 as announced on Facebook.
He brings over 20 years of experience in economic development to boost local business.
🎓 Education
A group of parents in Missouri is joining forces to oppose Amendment 5 that could lower funds for public schools by swapping income tax for higher sales taxes.
They are holding meetings in communities like Stockton, Blue Springs & North Kansas City to inform families and rally local support.
🏛️ Government
The Missouri Department of Agriculture updated movement requirements for domestic animals arriving from states with New World Screwworm zones.
Animals from infested areas must obtain an entry permit and recent inspection certificate, while those from nearby zones need only a veterinary certificate (inspected free of infestation) to enter Missouri.
Columbia Downtown Safety Ambassadors Program, active for just over a week, will publish its first monthly incident report starting mid-July to track downtown issues.
The group patrols on Wed, Fri and Sat from 4:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. and has already de-escalated a fight and responded during training.
🏥 Health
Columbia Farmers Market received a $37,500 grant from Veterans United Foundation Saturday to boost its Access to Healthy Food and Produce Prescription programs.
The funding supports Boone County families using SNAP and WIC benefits (including seniors and families) and will help expand the market’s Community Welcome Center opening this summer.
