COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Heart of Missouri United Way will launch its Grow With Us campaign on Aug. 18 to raise nearly $3 million and is seeking 500 volunteers to help fund over 25 local nonprofits that support health, education and basic needs. Campaign co-chairs Nancy Toalson and Wally Pfeffer said the drive will run until the end of the year—ensuring that donations are properly managed. Columbia Daily Tribune
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Missouri Symphony played at Boonville's historic Thespian Hall for the first time in more than 30 years, marking a return to a venue that is over 160 years old. Music director Wilbur Lee said the orchestra played movie themes (including tunes from Back to the Future, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, and Jurassic Park) as part of its summer tour to bring classical music to smaller communities. - ➤ State regulators have maintained a rule that stops medical marijuana patients from buying recreational products once they hit their limit — cannabis advocates claim the rule is unconstitutional and harms minority patients.
