CRIME NEWS

  • Dozens of community members gathered Friday night at Cosmo Park to honor teen Zarian Simpson, who died on Sunday, June 15 in a shooting during an armed robbery—two juveniles and Steven Paden, 34, were arrested in connection with the case.  ABC 17

HEALTH NEWS

  • Due to rising temperatures, oak trees and grass pollen are the main allergy triggers now, and experts say ragweed will get stronger mid-August—increasing allergy symptoms. Health centers advise starting with over-the-counter medicines if symptoms persist.  KOMU 8

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Pet owners in Columbia are working to keep their dogs cool as ABC 17 News tracks triple-digit heat index values through Tuesday and the Humane Society advises keeping pets indoors when temperatures go over 90+ degrees. Owners at Twin Lakes Dog Park shared ways to protect their pets, with one saying he sprays his dog with water and another saying her double-coated dog needs short bursts of outdoor play.  ABC 17

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Realtor.com's data shows that in May, Boone County homes were listed at a median price of $435,000, up 1.2% from the previous month, with an average size of 2,140 square feet at about $203 per square foot. Around 280 new listings emerged—a 21.7% increase—and homes spent a median 39 days on the market compared to the national median of 51 days.  Columbia Daily Tribune
